A little bit about John

Popular television newsman John Mangos has been a familiar face on Australian television screens for more than forty years.

He is currently a contributor to the Nine Network’s Today Show and a regular guest on ABC local radio.

Prior to this he anchored the Seven Network’s afternoon national news program for two years and appeared regularly on the same network’s Sunrise and Morning Show programs.

John was a founding anchor with Sky news when it launched in 1996 and proceeded to spend the next 15 years with the channel presenting the prime time evening edition news bulletins.

A widely respected newscaster, John spent 14 years with National Nine News where he worked in the Federal Parliamentary press gallery and as the NSW state political correspondent before he became the network’s United States correspondent based in Los Angeles.

John returned from the United States at the request of the “King of Australian Television”, Graham Kennedy, to co-host the top rating nightly Coast to Coast news program.

John went on to make documentaries for the Nine Network as well as hosting the Our World series on Sunday nights.

At the time he was a regular guest host of both Nine’s Today Show and the Midday Show.

He then moved to Network Ten to present Eyewitness News, but a year later was lured back to his old stomping ground at Nine for the irresistible chance to be an international roving reporter for the Midday Show.

John’s long and distinguished career was rewarded when the Seven Network offered him his own chat show, “At Home With John Mangos”, which aired nationally for two years.

This wasn’t enough for John who is known in television circles for his boundless energy and enthusiasm. John became a breakfast announcer on Sydney radio station 2KY, launched the new cable station, Greek Australian Television on Optusvision, and hosted a twice weekly current affairs program, Straight Talk.

John has covered a US Presidential Election campaign, numerous Australian Federal elections and budgets, Royal Commissions, Papal tours, visits by Heads of State and Olympic Games.

He lives in Sydney with his wife Tanny and two children Kosta and Apollo.

John is in demand as an after dinner speaker, Master of Ceremonies, seminar mediator and media trainer.

He relishes new challenges and frequently donates his time to charity fundraisers, particularly the Royal Sydney Children’s Hospital. He is a past Patron of the Make A Wish Foundation, a former steering committee member of Jeans for Genes and current Patron of Friends In Giving (Sir David Martin Foundation). He is also a past board member of environmental body Ocean Watch, and the Sydney Olympic Football Club.

John is an ambassador for the Sydney Swans Football club and for his decades of service to the club was bestowed a Life Membership.
